How would you explain your style and approach to therapy when working with clients?
I aim to create a compassionate, collaborative space where you and your child feel understood. Together, we’ll explore what is getting in the way and build on your strengths to find practical ways forward. I adapt my approach to each client’s age, needs, and interests.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is building deep, meaningful connections with the individuals I have the privilege of working with. Play is one of the primary ways I nurture these connections. As Fred Rogers said, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” I believe this can be true for adults as well. In my sessions, play can help children express themselves, explore their experiences, and learn new ways of responding.
I support children, teens, young adults, and parents with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, emotional regulation, and ongoing behavioural challenges. Because children’s well-being is closely connected to their relationships and environment, I involve parents in ways that support their child’s progress and the family as a whole.
I have extensive experience supporting neurodivergent children, including those with ADHD and autism, and their families. I help clients better understand their needs, strengthen relationships, and navigate school and community supports.
For clients who wish to include faith in their sessions, I also offer faith-based counselling, guided by their own beliefs and preferences.
What is a psychoeducational assessment?
A psychoeducational assessment helps children, teens, and adults understand how they learn, where their strengths lie, and what may be making learning difficult. It brings together information about thinking and learning skills with relevant aspects of attention, emotional well-being, behaviour, and everyday functioning.
I provide psychoeducational assessments, as well as assessments of ADHD, ASD, giftedness, social-emotional and behavioural concerns, adaptive skills, and executive functioning. My goal is to make the findings clear and useful, with recommendations that help clients, parents, and educators identify appropriate learning strategies, accommodations, and supports.
What training and expertise do you bring to your sessions?
I hold a Master of Education and bring more than 10 years of experience supporting children, youth, and families in educational, residential, and community settings. Before becoming fully registered, I spent two and a half years working as a provisional psychologist in a clinic, providing counselling and assessment services.
My additional training includes the Foundations of Play Therapy Certificate program (Green Stream), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Certification Training to Treat Children and Adolescents, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Certificate Training.
I have worked with clients experiencing ADHD, autism, mood concerns, anxiety, grief, and significant trauma, as well as children from separated or divorced families and those involved with Child and Family Services. These experiences inform my attention to each client’s circumstances and the relationships that support them.
Outside of your therapist role, what are some ways in which you express your uniqueness as a person?
I’m happiest when I can be active. In the summer, I especially enjoy swimming in lakes, and I’ve recently discovered the joy of biking to work year-round. Music is another important part of my life—I enjoy playing and recording drums.
