This page is for you if…

  • You or your child is autistic, has ADHD, or learns and experiences the world differently

  • You are a late-diagnosed adult trying to make sense of your identity, burnout, or relationships

  • You are parenting a neurodivergent child and feel overwhelmed by meltdowns, school struggles, or emotional storms

  • You or your teen struggles with emotional regulation, anxiety, or shutdowns

  • Your relationship or family life feels strained by ADHD, autism, or neurodiverse communication styles

  • You are tired of being told to “try harder” and are looking for therapy that actually understands neurodivergent brains

How Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy Works at Eckert Centre

At Eckert Centre, neurodiversity-affirming therapy means we do not try to change who you or your child is.
We help you understand how your brain, nervous system, relationships, and environment interact, so you can move from survival to stability and growth.

Neurodivergent struggles — whether related to ADHD, autism, learning differences, or emotional regulation — are rarely just about behaviour. They reflect what is happening inside the nervous system, in relationships, and across the family ecosystem.

That is why we use the Eckert Centre Well-Being Model™, which supports four interconnected areas:

Nervous system and emotions
We help calm overwhelm, reduce shutdowns and emotional explosions, and build regulation skills in ways that respect how neurodivergent brains work.

Thoughts, identity, and self-understanding
We support clients in making sense of their neurodivergent identity, releasing shame, and developing confidence, clarity, and self-leadership.

Relationships and attachment
We work with how people connect, communicate, and co-regulate — including parent-child, partner, and family relationships — so neurodivergent people can feel safe, understood, and supported.

Family and life systems
We look at school, home, stress load, routines, and expectations, helping families create environments that allow neurodivergent people to succeed rather than burn out.

Because real change takes time and consistency, we follow our Power of 8™ model — a research-informed approach that recognizes that most people need at least eight well-sequenced sessions to create meaningful, lasting change.

This allows therapy to move beyond short-term coping into true regulation, connection, and growth for neurodivergent individuals and families.

Our Neurodiversity Programs

For many neurodivergent children, teens, and families, a structured program can feel safer, clearer, and easier to engage with than traditional “therapy.” Eckert Centre’s neurodiversity programs provide a defined path, predictable rhythm, and shared language that helps children and teens feel more willing to participate — and helps parents feel more confident and supported.

These programs are designed to build emotional regulation, confidence, and connection while working alongside (or as a bridge into) ongoing therapy and Beyond the Scores™ assessment when needed.

You Make Sense™ — An Intro to Autism for Teens (Ages 13–17)

A neurodiversity-affirming program for autistic teens and their families

If your teen has been diagnosed with Level 1 Autism and daily life still feels overwhelming, You Make Sense™ offers structured, respectful, and identity-affirming support.

This 8-week program is designed for:

  • Autistic teens ages 13–17

  • Families with a recent autism diagnosis (typically within the past 5 years)

  • Parents navigating challenges with emotional regulation, self-care, schoolwork, and sibling conflict

Teens learn how their autistic brain works, develop emotional regulation and self-advocacy skills, and build confidence and identity.
Parents learn how to support regulation, reduce conflict, and feel more capable at home.

The program uses Eckert Centre’s Well-Being Model™ and can be a stand-alone starting point, a bridge into therapy, or part of a Beyond the Scores™ assessment and care plan.
