Registered Psychologist or Clinical Therapist (Trauma Specialist + Family Systems or Child Focus) – Full-Time

At Eckert Centre, we support individuals and families navigating complex challenges—trauma, anxiety, neurodiversity, and relational strain that impacts the entire family system.

Our work is grounded in a whole-person, family-systems approach. We are seeking a highly skilled trauma therapist with a secondary area of specialization in either:

  • Child therapy and parent support, or
  • Couples and family therapy (Family Systems focus)

This is a full-time employment position within a collaborative, psychologist-led team.


Who This Role Is For

This role is designed for a clinician who brings depth, clarity, and confidence in their work.

You are:

  • A trauma-informed clinician with 5+ years of experience
  • AND have a clearly developed second area of specialization in either:
    • Child and parenting work (attachment, emotional regulation, behavioural support), OR
    • Couples and family therapy (systems-based, relational, communication-focused)

You are comfortable working with:

  • Trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions
  • Women’s mental health (including postpartum and menopause)
  • Clients seeking Christian faith-integrated counselling
  • Clients seeking non-faith-based therapy

Clinical Expertise

Primary Area: Trauma

You have advanced training and demonstrated competency in three or more of the following:

  • EMDR
  • Havening Techniques® (sensory-based trauma processing)
  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR).
  • Attachment-based approaches
  • Parts work (e.g., IFS-informed)
  • Polyvagal-informed care

You understand trauma through a nervous system, relational, and meaning-making lens, and can work effectively with complex presentations.


Secondary Area (Choose One Path)

Child Therapist & Parenting Specialist

  • Experience working with children ages 0–12 (with a primary clinical focus on ages 4+) and their caregivers
  • Strong understanding of attachment, emotional regulation, and parent-child dynamics
  • Experience supporting neurodiverse children (ADHD, ASD, learning differences)
  • Ability to coach parents in practical, evidence-based strategies
  • Training in attachment-based or parenting models such as:
    • Circle of Security
    • Theraplay

Couples & Family Therapist (Family Systems)

  • Advanced training in couples and/or family therapy
  • Strong grounding in Family Systems approaches
  • Training in models such as:
    • Family Systems Therapy
    • Gottman Method
    • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Skilled in communication repair, relational patterns, and attachment dynamics
  • Experience working with couples and complex family systems

Innovation, AI, and Thought Leadership

This is not a traditional therapy role.

  • Use AI tools to:
    • Support administrative efficiency
    • Develop psychoeducational resources
    • Contribute to written and video content
  • Participate in:
    • YouTube and educational video creation
    • Community outreach and referral partnerships
  • Contribute to program development within your area of expertise

Emerging Therapies

You will be part of a team introducing:

Exomind Therapy (launching Spring 2026)
An accelerated rTMS-based treatment approved by Health Canada for:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety (including OCD)
  • Binge eating

You do not need prior experience with TMS, but you must be open to learning and integrating emerging mental health technologies alongside psychotherapy.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Psychology or Social Work
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) in Alberta
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience
  • Advanced training in trauma treatment
  • Demonstrated secondary specialization (child/parenting OR couples/family)

Faith Integration

Eckert Centre offers optional Christian faith-integrated counselling.

This role requires:

  • Ability to integrate Christian perspectives into therapy when requested by the client
  • Comfort working with clients of diverse belief systems
  • Clinical discernment in how and when to incorporate faith appropriately
