Beyond Scores™ ADHD Assessments in Calgary and Across Alberta

At Eckert Centre, ADHD assessments are guided by our trademarked Beyond Scores™ approach—meaning we don’t assume ADHD and we don’t rely on symptom checklists alone. Senior psychologists lead the process to carefully differentiate what’s really going on, so conclusions fit the person and recommendations are genuinely useful in real life.

Why ADHD Assessments Require Careful Clinical Thinking

ADHD can look simple on the surface, but it rarely is.

Difficulties with focus, organization, impulsivity, or restlessness can overlap with many other factors, including anxiety, trauma, learning differences, giftedness, sleep challenges, or chronic stress. In adults especially, ADHD may look very different than it does in childhood—and is frequently missed or misunderstood.

Because of this overlap, high-quality ADHD assessment is not about confirming a checklist. It requires careful clinical thinking, strong pattern recognition, and the ability to hold multiple possibilities at once.

At Eckert Centre, ADHD assessments are led by Senior Psychologists who specialize in differentiating ADHD from other conditions and understanding how it shows up across the lifespan. This depth of thinking reduces the risk of misdiagnosis and helps ensure that the conclusions truly fit the person—not just the symptoms.

How We Approach ADHD Assessments at Eckert Centre

Because ADHD overlaps with so many other factors, our process is designed to differentiate carefully—not rush to a label.

This is the Beyond Scores™ approach in action, guided by the Eckert Centre Well-Being Model™.

Rather than asking only “Does this meet criteria?”, we ask:

  • Why are these patterns showing up?

  • What else might be contributing?

  • How do attention challenges interact with emotions, learning, relationships, and daily life?

This whole-person lens helps us understand ADHD in the context of real life—how someone thinks and learns, how they manage stress and emotions, and how these patterns show up at school, at work, and at home.

All ADHD assessments at Eckert Centre are guided by senior psychologist leadership and supported by a collaborative assessment team, ensuring depth, accuracy, and thoughtful integration at every stage.

Common ADHD Patterns We Help Clarify

ADHD can look very different from one person to another. While no two profiles are the same, individuals who benefit from an ADHD assessment often experience patterns such as:

  • Attention and mental energy challenges
Difficulty sustaining focus on tasks that are not inherently engaging, alongside periods of intense hyperfocus on areas of interest.

  • Executive functioning difficulties
Challenges with organization, time management, planning, and follow-through, despite strong intelligence or motivation.

  • Emotional and stress-response differences
Heightened emotional responses, frustration tolerance challenges, or difficulty shifting gears.

  • Daily life impact
Ongoing stress related to school performance, work demands, relationships, or self-confidence.

An ADHD assessment helps clarify whether these patterns are best explained by ADHD, something else, or a combination of factors—and what supports will actually make a difference.

Our Neurodiversity-Affirming ADHD Assessment Process

Our ADHD assessment process is designed to support clarity, accuracy, and dignity at every stage.

Our ADHD assessment process is designed to support clarity, accuracy, and dignity at every stage. We take a neurodiversity-affirming approach, which means we seek a respectful, whole-person understanding—identifying strengths as clearly as challenges, and avoiding rushed conclusions.

Rather than jumping to a label, we move through the assessment in a way that allows patterns to emerge thoughtfully and in context.

1. Clarifying the Question
We begin by understanding what prompted the assessment and what questions you are hoping to answer. This step matters—because a clear question leads to a more meaningful assessment and more useful recommendations.

2. Differentiating Possibilities
We gather information from multiple sources, which may include standardized measures, interviews, questionnaires, and input from the people or settings involved (such as parents, teachers, or work contexts). Senior psychologist leadership ensures ADHD is carefully differentiated from other overlapping factors, so conclusions truly fit the person.

3. Integrating Results
Findings are interpreted using our Beyond Scores™ framework—looking at how attention, learning, stress and emotions, and day-to-day demands interact, rather than viewing results in isolation.

4. Translating Insight into Action
We provide clear feedback and practical, prioritized recommendations for school, work, therapy, and daily life—so you leave with a plan, not just information.

Who ADHD Assessments Are — and Aren’t — a Good Fit For

An ADHD assessment at Eckert Centre may be a good fit if:

  • You want to understand why attention-related challenges are showing up

  • You are open to a thoughtful, exploratory process

  • You value accurate differentiation over quick answers

  • You want recommendations that translate into real-world support

An ADHD assessment may not be the right first step if:

  • You are primarily seeking the fastest or least expensive option, rather than careful differentiation

  • You are looking only for confirmation of a diagnosis without deeper exploration

  • You prefer a checklist-based approach

We believe ethical assessment includes helping clients choose the right path—even when that means slowing down or considering options beyond testing.
