As parents, we all want the best for our children. But when we see them struggling—whether emotionally, socially, or behaviorally—it’s natural to feel worried, unsure, and even powerless. We know there are things outside of our control, like temperament or life events, that shape our children’s development. But here’s what we can control: how we show up for them. And that makes all the difference.
Research shows that children who develop secure attachments with their caregivers thrive. But being that secure base for your child takes more than just love—it takes parental presence. And if you’re reading this, it means you’re already showing up for your child by seeking the support you need to be the best parent you can be.
The Power of Parental Presence
Parenting isn’t just about solving problems in the moment; it’s about creating a space where your child feels seen, heard, and understood, even in the most challenging situations. This is what we mean by parental presence—the ability to be fully aware and connected with your child, no matter what life throws at you.
At Eckert Psychology & Education Centre in Calgary, we help parents develop this parental presence through our expertise in the internationally recognized Circle of Security - Parenting (COS-P) program. This attachment-based parenting program helps parents understand and respond to their children’s emotional needs in a way that fosters secure attachment and emotional growth.
COS-P is built on decades of research into how secure parent-child relationships can positively impact a child’s development, both emotionally and relationally. By learning the principles of this program, you’ll be equipped to create a stronger, more secure bond with your child, allowing them to feel understood and supported, even in difficult moments.
Parenting Through the Challenges
When your child is struggling, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to help. Maybe you’re dealing with behavioral issues, emotional outbursts, or challenges that come with co-parenting in separate households. These challenges can leave you feeling stretched thin, wondering if you’re doing enough, or if you even know the right way to show up for your child.
The truth is, parenting is hard, and it’s okay to ask for help. That’s where our team at Eckert Centre comes in. With our training in Circle of Security - Parenting, we help parents like you make sense of their parenting experiences and provide tools that strengthen the bond between you and your child.
Our co-parenting therapists in Calgary understand the complexities of raising children, especially when parenting happens across two households. We know the emotional toll this can take on families, but we also know how to help. By working together, we can help you create a more harmonious family dynamic where your child feels secure and supported, no matter the circumstances.
